Renewable Materials for Our Phone Cases

05 Mar 2024

At agood company, we are passionate about creating sustainable products that promote conscious consumerism. We believe that we can make a positive impact on the world by reducing waste and choosing eco-conscious materials. That's why we are proud to offer plant based mobile cases as a durable and sustainable option for protecting your phone. By using renewable resources and reducing our carbon footprint, we are working towards a future where mindless consumption is replaced by conscious consumerism.

Let’s take a closer look at the materials used to make our mobile cases and the benefits of choosing an eco-conscious option for your phone protection.

Sustainable materials inside our phone case

We use a blend of renewable sources to make our mobile cases including Hemp, PLA, Cellulose and Flax / Linseed.

What is Hemp?

Industrial hemp is a plant in the botanical class of Cannabis sativa cultivars and can be used to make a wide range of products. Along with bamboo, hemp is among the fastest growing plants on Earth, which is one of the reasons we like it so much!

What is PLA?

PLA stands for Polylactic Acid made from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugar cane. It's a natural polymer and we use it in our phone cases instead of widely used petroleum-based plastics like PET (polyethene terephthalate).

What is Cellulose?

Made from a renewable, compostable raw material - The cellulose we use comes from local forestry residues - cellulose is used to help strengthen our phone cases.

What Is Linseed / Flax?

Linseed, also known as flaxseed, is a food and fibre crop that has been cultivated for thousands of years. It grows in cooler regions of the world, including Europe, North America, and Asia. The plant is harvested for its seeds, which are commonly used as a health food due to their high nutritional content. Linseed is also a valuable source of fibre, which can be used to make textiles, paper, and other products.

We use a little of the waste from linseed oil production as one of the ingredients in our plant-based mobile cases. These plants are grown by an ecologically certified farmer near our basecamp in Sweden. This means that we are able to use a renewable resource that would otherwise go to waste.

Why do we like using plants?

Well, take linseed as an example. There are many ways in which Linseed can be used. We are just using a part of the plant - and the part which normally goes to waste.

Applications of linseed

Linseed, also known as flaxseed, is a versatile plant that has many different applications. Here are some of the most common uses of linseed:

  • Food: Linseed is commonly used as a health food due to its high nutritional content. It is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and other essential nutrients. Linseed can be eaten raw, roasted, or ground into a fine powder and used as an ingredient in a variety of recipes.
  • Textiles: Linseed is a valuable source of fiber, which can be used to make textiles such as linen. Linen is a lightweight and breathable fabric that is popular in clothing and home goods such as bedding and tablecloths.
  • Paper: Linseed fiber can also be used to make paper. Linen paper is known for its durability and high quality.
  • Fuel: Linseed oil can be used as a biofuel. It is a renewable resource that can be used in place of fossil fuels, reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
  • Industrial uses: Linseed oil is also used in a variety of industrial applications, such as in the production of paints, varnishes, and other coatings. It is valued for its drying properties and ability to provide a protective finish.

Our phone case manufacturing process

We spent a lot of time refining our local manufacturing process - it's surprisingly hard to make products which have the characteristics of traditional plastic but which are made from renewable sources.

Here are a few of the things we are most proud of:

  • Fully circular! Our number 1 objective is to make a product which we can take back, re-process and re-use to make something else. And that's exactly what we've managed with our phone cases. By doing so we lower the amount of waste created in our industry, and we reduce the amount of virgin material needed to make the next generation of phone cases. Win-win.
  • We understand that not everyone has the time or energy to send a product back to the manufacturer for recycling. Since we are working a lot with plants, we know our phone cases are biodegradable under the right conditions - and that requires industrial composting. So they will return to their original state, but we'll always prefer to get them back!
  • We're all about organic farming. So the flax we use is locally grown without any pesticides, inorganic fertilizers, or other nasties. It's good for the earth and good for you.
  • We also hate wasting water. That's why we take care to avoid any water waste during the manufacturing process. Because let's face it, every drop counts.

Overall, we're pretty proud of our innovative practices. And we're not just saying that – we have our plant-based mobile cases to prove it.

Benefits of using linseed mobile cases

At agood company, we believe that sustainability is all about circularity and the circular economy. That means finding ways to use resources in a way that keeps them in the economy for as long as possible. And that's where our plant based mobile cases come in.

First of all, let's talk about the obvious benefits.

Our cases are lightweight, slim, and stylish.

This means you can protect your phone without sacrificing your fashion sense. Plus, they're strong and durable, which means they can handle whatever life throws your way (including those inevitable drops and scratches).

Circular Program, agood loop™

But that's not all. Because we're committed to circularity, we have a program called agood loop™ that lets you swap your mobile case for a new one - at any time and for any reason.

agood loop is a circular system that allows you to send your old case back to us for recycling. We'll make sure it gets broken down and reused in a way that keeps it in the economy for as long as possible.

Conclusion

In conclusion, at agood company, we take pride in using eco-conscious and innovative practices in the production of our mobile cases. By focusing on renewable sources and circularity, we believe that protecting the environment and creating high-quality products can go hand in hand.
