Our bloated consumption is harming the planet and will have long lasting consequences if we don't curb it soon. As consumers, we can do our bit by consuming less and switching to eco-friendly alternatives that protect the environment.

Sustainable products have been designed and manufactured in a way that leaves as little environmental footprint as possible. This covers materials, manufacture, shipping and disposal.

The ultimate goal is to make durable, reusable products from sustainable materials that once used can be recycled multiple times as part of a circular economy. Either that or biodegrade naturally.

Here's a list of eco-friendly vs traditional products.

    Reusable water bottle

As a general rule when purchasing more climate positive products it is best to avoid plastic wherever possible. Although plastic has served us well down the years, the environmental impact of its production is enormous. Rather than buying drinks in plastic bottles or cups whilst on the go, make a reusable bottle your lifelong companion. Our A Good Bottle, for example, is designed to last a lifetime, or ten.

    Plastic-free mobile case

Protecting your mobile phone is worthwhile for both your wallet and the environment. Whilst a lot of phone cases are made from plastic, luckily there are alternatives available. To make ourA Good Mobile Cases, we convert the byproduct from a Swedish linseed farm into a 100% biodegradable and reusable material that still provides excellent protection.

    Stone Paper notebook

Paper made from wood has been around for thousands of years, but paper made from stone is a more modern innovation. Trees and forests are important for capturing carbon and logging is a dirty business. Additionally, the process of converting the wood to paper is energy-intensive, uses a lot of water and harmful chemicals for bleaching. Stone paper is made from the leftover stone from quarrying and is made into paper in a waterless process that runs on clean energy and uses no chemical bleaches. We use it to make ourstone paper notebooks and journals.

    Natural grass pens

Most inexpensive pens are terrible for the environment because they’re made from the worst kind of plastics and only designed to be used once. As a solution, weredeveloped the classic biro using a mixture of naturally growing meadow grass and BPA-free recycled plastic. The barrel will last for years and you can keep refilling.

    Bamboo Toilet Paper

On average, we flush away 27,000 trees per day in the form of regular toilet paper. To meet demand, these have to be grown with the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides. They then have to be cut down using heavy machinery before being turned into toilet paper with the use of chemicals and then, to top it off, wrapped in plastic. All in all, pretty dirty.

Bamboo is a great alternative because it’s fast growing, absorbs more CO2, doesn’t require fertilisers or pesticides and uses less water. What’s more, it can be re-harvested again and again and is ridiculously abundant.

    Bamboo toothbrush

Most toothbrushes are made from plastic and last for hundreds of years after use, piling up in landfills and on beaches.Bamboo toothbrushes, on the other hand, are entirely compostable (minus the bristles) and are organically grown without pesticides or chemicals.

    Eco-friendly toothpaste

Toothpaste tubes are one of the most difficult things to recycle that we make, and empty tubes end up in landfills and the environment. Not only that, but most toothpastes contain artificial chemicals that are harmful to the environment. It is possible, however, to create toothpaste using naturally occurring chemicals and in non-plastic packaging.

    Plastic-free floss

Flossing is good. Floss made from plastic is bad. Once used it will take hundreds of years to degrade and will likely end up back in our mouths through our food! What is more, most floss comes packaged in more plastic. We developedplastic-free dental floss made from corn starch byproduct and candelilla wax that will degrade in nature and packaged it in a reusable glass container.

    Bamboo cutlery and straws

Chances are you love picnicking or hiking and getting out into nature. But taking plastic cutlery and straws out into nature is a risk because if you should accidentally leave it there then it will remain in the environment for hundreds of years. Then there’s the production of the plastic itself to think about. What better alternative for using in nature than nature itself? Bamboo is a better option because it’s clean to grow, is extremely hardwearing and will biodegrade if accidentally forgotten.

    Green web hosting solutions

Servers, where the internet lives, are extremely energy intensive and as more and more people get connected their contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions is set to rise. By 2040, storing digital data is set to create 14 percent of the world’s GHG emissions. So, if you or your business are looking to host a website or store data somewhere, then you can make sure you don’t contribute to this by using an eco friendly hosting solution likeGreengeeks.
